Treasures from one of the most important private collections of Islamic art are now shown outside of Italy for the first time at Toronto’s Aga Khan Museum. Arts of the East: Highlights of Islamic Art from the Bruschettini Collection is a selection of masterworks tightly curated by Filiz Çakır Phillip of the Aga Khan Museum and Dr. Alessandro Bruschettini.
From intricately patterned carpets and textiles to polychrome Iznik ceramics, lavish manuscript paintings to precious inlaid metalwork, the exhibition features the finest examples of craftsmanship across the Islamic world from the 13th to 17th centuries. Represented in the exhibition are works from the Ilkhanids, descendants of the Mongols (1256-1353), the Mamluks in Egypt and Syria (1250-1517), Safavid Iran (1501-1736), the Ottoman Empire (1301-1922), and Mughal India (1526-1857).
Arts of the East is a recognition of the ingenuity of Islamic artisans and a celebration of the ingenious ways artistic inspiration and technical developments filtered across geographic borders to connect cultures, traditions and historical eras.
